Cooking demo for kids: those who like to cook and those who don’t like to eat

Young chefs inspiring young eaters,

a “live cooking show” for kids, ages 4 to 14 years old.

Sunday, July 29th, 1 to 4pm, in Cupertino at the:

see address below

For this demo, Chef Joni Sare invites all kids who like to cook ….AND…

invites all kids who don’t like to eat (home-cooked meals).

Goals of this demo

  • to increase comfort and confidence level with food, in the kitchen and at the table.
  • to build a greater appreciation for transforming food (ingredients) into what we eat.
  • to empower kids to make better decisions with what they eat.
  • to entice them, to motivate them, to inspire them, to broaden their experience with food.

The agenda

At 1pm, 2pm and 3pm: Chef Joni and the kids will walk around the store talking about fresh produce, dry goods and refrigerator items. The kids will lead the way, pointing out foods — what they like and don’t like and what they are willing to try. Together they will decide on what Chef Joni will cook for them. She will make a dish each hour based on the ideas from the kids, with the ingredients they pick out from the store shelves.

Who’s invited

This demo is for young chefs sharing their fun, their passion, with young eaters who’d rather eat out every day.

Parents are invited, even if their children are not present. Adults are encouraged to join the group, yet will participate as a spectator, not as a participant. Children under 7 years old are required to have an adult with them.

What

Chef Joni will talk about cooking, eating, ethnic foods, home-cooked foods, take-out foods, flavors, comfort in the kitchen, comfort at the table, and so much more.

During this cooking demo the children will hold, touch and feel the food, and Chef Joni will prepare it and cook it while the children view her ‘live cooking show.’

NOTE: All food will be vegetarian, unless everyone present is okay to eat chicken.

Please call Chef Joni if you have any questions, if you need more information about this event.

About Monta Vista Market

Monta Vista Market is locally-owned and managed by Peter and Gail Yessne, long-time residents of Cupertino. They have been gardening organically in Monta Vista for more than 25 years.

As available, Peter and Gail plan to offer their Cupertino-grown produce for purchase at the store. While not certiifed organic, their vegetables are grown without the use of pesticides, hericides, insecticides, or chemical fertilizers. Peter and Gail use organic compost generated from their kitchen and garden waste, supplementing periodically with locally generated compost made with horse and chicken manure.

Monta Vista Market has also established a business partnership with ALBA, the Agriculture and Land-Based Training Association, based in Salinas CA Two percent of the store’s sales is donated to further ALBA’s mission of training low income farm workers to become self-sustaining organic farmers. In turn, ALBA is a primary produce supplier to Monta Vista Market.

The employees at Monta Vista Market are encouraged to be knowledgeable in various aspects of organic produce and organic agriculture, so that they can answer your questions about use of vegetables, fruits, and other organic food offered at the store. If we can’t answer your question immediately, we’ll do the research and let you know the answer.
